Magical - layout by Emma

Hi everyone,
Hope over this long weekend you managed some down time in amongst the crazy. I know I’ve been trying to take time out for some creative play.
So today I share a 12x12 with you. I’ve been doing a lot  of other play with art journals ect because I thought I had become boring in my scrapping.
But after creating a few new 12x12s I realise I love this process so much. Yes sometimes they can look the same and yes the process can be the same but it doesn’t matter, it’s about having fun, creating for you, and just really enjoying the art for what it is. I am my own worst critic.
So with that, I got inspired by this months challenges. And I love that we have been combining them.

I was also inspired by this beautiful art work I found on Pinterest.

I’m not sure if the original source, but I’m in awe and had to use it. So much gorgeous!

So here is my creation.....

How awesome to have this moodboard colours to suit this photo.
I started with a sheet of Paper Arts Artistry2 for my background, then I spread a bit of gesso, then through a stencil used Jo Sonja’s Texture paste black and then added my colours over it. I chose distress oxides in fossilised amber and wild honey.
Then I needed to balance the yellows with some blue. So I splashed some Kaiser mist in aqua, and liquitex paint marker in cobalt blue with which I added water too and flicked it around.

Once dry I stamped a few different images around including the darkroom door hexagons and Dina Wakley abstract scribbles.
Behind my image I used 1 sheet from the Heidi Swapp 6x8 paper pad and 1 from the Pink Paisley 6x6 memorandum pad.

In my embellishments I used a few of the arrows from the Heidi Swapp color resist embellishments pack, and a couple of the stickers from the Marquee love pk.

I ended my page with some of the cool pebble rocks in blue, mixed with glossy accents to adhere to the page. These are awesome!!
This layout is also the sketch flipped on its side.

I hope you play around with this months challenge, they are always so much fun.

I’ll catch you all again soon,
Till then, Em xxx

A little journal page

Hello hello!
Hope the month of March has been awesome for you.
So who else is in awe of all the awesome Journal art Lisa and Kylie  have been creating?
Oh my they are such inspiration. So because of feeling inspired by them I had a play in my journal.
I also have been playing and self teaching a little abstract acrylic art. So I tackled it again in my journal.
With Lisa in my head and the desire to create I made this.....

I think I’ve said it before, but the freeness of art journal is relaxing and exciting. You never quite know how it’s going to turn out.

Once I had layered my base paints which included Dylusions white acrylic and art anthology in silve , I splashed liquitex carbon ink around and at the time thought I had ruined it a little by being to heavy handed with it.
But this is what is so great about this process of journal, you can just keep building. So I then splashed liquitex titanium white ink as well.
Then added some Dylusion orange and ranger distress collage medium into the mix, this ‘softened’ the black splashes a little.

Now came the stenciling and stamping.
I used an archival ink through a few different stencils and on the varied stamps

Once all my ‘messy creative’ was complete, I added to the page with a couple of we r memomory keepers Chipboard frames  And sitting in and around these I used Tim Holtz paper dolls to add a bit of curiosity to the pages.

Then I added a few older stickers I’ve had for years to the page and finished with some more stamping on the frames and liquitex splats around to pull it all together.

When I started these pages I thought I had totally wrecked it but.....the end result makes my heart smile.

If you have yet to try this form of creativity, I highly recommend it. It allows the inner creative out. You might be pleasantly surprised. I know I am.

I hope I can inspire you a little with my video of the process also.

Till I see you all in April....happy scrapping.

Totally- a 12x12 with Em

Hey Hey my SC peeps!
Its Wednesday today and I'm here to share another layout showing some more awesome products that Kylie has in store.

So firstly i chose a sheet of the very cool Ella & Viv graffiti paper.

And yep i totally ruined it!

I put it to the side and was so disappointed in myself cos i had an idea in my mind and it totally did not work out!
Trying to choose another background paper, nothing worked with the image i was using, quite like the Graffiti paper did.
So grabbing it out again i thought i must be able to salvage it surely.....

I applied gesso and some Dina wakley acrylic paint in Ruby to the background covering some of my mistake.
You can see how i do this in my video at the end of this blog post :)

Then i played with stamps i recently purchased, Dina Wakley cling stamps to be exact.
these are so very very cool and easy to play with.

On the background i also used a few Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs instaed of more stamping.
its been ages since i used rub ons but these were awesome to use. sticky and easy to rub.
they look like a stamp.

Then for my layers behind my photo i used a few different things, starting with a sheet from the
Pink Paislee memorandum pad.
I also used a Heidi swapp Fabric Tag and a Heidi Swapp color magic notes (boy do i love these, i just love applying colour to these with a Baby wipe, with the resist on them it just adds so much depth).

Then directly behind the photo i chose a we r memory keepers chipboard frames to frame my boy.
because i chose one in the kraft i stenciled over it withone of the same stencils i used on the background.

And like with all my layouts, yep you guessed it, a splash of
Liquitex Titanium white ink.

What are some of your favourite go to products, you just can not use on a layout?

I would love you to check out my latest video of this layout as well.

My gorgeous Son Jude composed the music for it. So it felt fitting to use a photo of him with his latest track.
I hope you enjoy, and will catch you all soon.
Have an awesome Wednesday.

Strong- a 12x12 layout

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s my turn to share a creation with you all. For this layout I was inspired by some of the colours in this months moodboard. Particularly the green, black image in the bottom corner.

I was also inspired by 2 words in the quote, strong and woman. Hence my title and a selfie. Most days I’m far from strong, but I’m a work in progress, so it’s something I try for.

My background consists of lots of SC goodies, starting with stencils and modeling paste in opaque matte  and Jo Sonja’s texture paste in black   for my greens I used a couple of water colours from the new Vicki boutin water colour set
I also smeared some dylusions lemon zest around with a palette knife  You can see this process in more detail in my video at the end of this post.

For my layers behind my photo I used a couple of sheets from pink paisley 6x6 paper pad  I tore this up and layered with a WRMK typecast tag.

My title letters are from the Heidi Swapp alphabet
I did also tuck in a flair from Heidi Swapp flair and button embellishment set.

The couple of enamel dots used are from the Heidi Swapp stickers set.

I painted all my chipboard with the same oxide inks as my background.

Lastly like on all my layouts or creations I flicked Liquitex carbon artist ink around to pull the whole project together.
I really hope this inspires you a little to join in with this months challenge.
And I hope you enjoy my video too.

I’ll catch you all soon. Enjoy your week.

#justsaying

Welcome to March everyone.
This month at Scrap the Boys we have a sketch challenge.
I had trouble following this sketch as I find it hard to use a large image in the background and multi photo. So I decided to pull elements out of the sketch and use these instead.

I placed tags in the tag section of the sketch and a few of my embellishments are clustered in the sketch pattern.

Mostly I just wanted to have fun, and that’s what creating and scrapbooking is all about. But it’s also about your interpretation.

I used lots of mixed media, which I kinda felt I stuffed up with but kinda liked at the same time.

I can’t wait to see what you guys create with this sketch.
Till next time, Em. Xx
